Position: Supine, arms at side on armboards
Time: 30-60 min (short)
Blood Loss: Very Low (5-10 ml)
Post-op Pain: Minimal (1-3)
Maintenance Paralytic: No
Anesthetic Approaches
- MAC, Propofol Drip, Local Anesthetic
- MAC, Propofol Push, Local Anesthetic
The Anesthesia
Local anesthetic is administered shortly after the patient is sedated (3-5 minutes). This is very stimulating. If there isn’t enough sedation on board, the patient may jump or suddenly move on injection. This looks bad – so make sure to give a good amount of sedation up front and then back off as necessary through the procedure.
